Definitions of Membership Classes

  • All Fellows and Members except Honorary Fellows and Foreign Corresponding Fellows shall be residents of North America or dependencies of the United States at the time of their election.
  • There will also be a category of Supporting Organizations or Individuals.
  • Fellows:
    • Fellows shall be chosen from Members who have not less than five years standing as Members, and who have made substantial contributions to the College and to the field of neuropsy­chopharmacology.
  • Life Fellows and Life Members should be recommended by the Credentials Committee and approved by Council in recognition of service to the College for a minimum of ten years. Ordinarily, such action would not be initiated until a Fellow or Member reaches the age of sixty-five.
  • Honorary Fellows may be chosen by Council from time to time from individuals who are not members of the College, but who are distinguished because of their exceptional contribution to neuropsychopharmacology.
  • Members shall be chosen by the College from those who have shown investigative skill and who have made worthy contributions to the field of neuropsychopharmacology.
  • A person whose career interest is in the field of neuropsychopharmacology, and who has demonstrated potential to become a superior investigator in this field may apply for associate membership status.
  • Emeritus status may be granted to Fellows, Life Fellows, Members, Life Members, and Foreign Corresponding Fellows who have been members for at least ten (10) years and reached the age of sixty-five or have retired due to disability.
  • Supporting Organizations or Designated Representatives shall be individuals, institutes, or corporate organizations who have contributed to the financial support of the College. In proportion to the support offered, as defined by Council, they shall be allowed to designate individuals as Designated Representatives.
  • Foreign Corresponding Fellows may be chosen from non-North Americans who have made exceptionally worthy contributions to the field of neuro­psychopharmacology.
  • Administrative Members shall be individuals whose official duties involve them responsibly in the support, development, or direction of neuropsycho­pharmacology. They shall apply for administrative membership through the Secretariat and be approved by Council.
