Relation of age (x axis) to dose-normalized steady-state plasma alprazolam concentration (ng/ml per mg/day, y axis) in a series of 74 male patients receiving alprazolam for the treatment of panic disorder in a multicenter clinical trial (31). Dose-normalized plasma concentration increases significantly with age (r = 0.24, p < 0.05), but the size of the squared correlation coefficient (r2 = 0.06) indicates that age accounts for only a small proportion of variance.
