Chromosomal organization of HOM-C/Hox clusters.  The Drosophila HOM-C is at the top, and includes two separate clusters, the Antennapedia (ANT-C) and bithorax (BX-C) clusters. The 13 paralog groups are labeled at the bottom. In the vertebrate clusters, above each box is the current nomenclature and at the bottom the old nomenclature. The vertical stippled boxes indicate sequence homology relationships of vertebrate genes with Drosophila HOM-C members. The large arrow at the bottom indicates that the direction of transcription of the vertebrate genes has the same orientation. Genes on the left are expressed earliest and are most anterior.
