NE applied iontophoretically (at hatched bars) inhibits basal activity but leaves responses evoked by Glu (applied at solid circles, upper trace) or ACh (applied at solid bars, lower trace) intact. In contrast, 5-HT (iontophoresed at open bars) does not affect basal discharge rate but attenuates responses to Glu (upper trace).
